Co. Tyrone Grand Orange Lodge

Thank you to County Tyrone Grand Orange Lodge who presented Air Ambulance Northern Ireland with a cheque for £3000.00. This was part of the proceeds of a 5-mile charity walk by lodge members, families, and friends from right across Co Tyrone.

Jean Morrow from Lurgan celebrated her 100th birthday on the 3rd May this year by asking for donations to Air Ambulance NI. Jean raised an incredible £2,859 by taking donations online through JustGiving. Jean said: “At this stage in life I have everything I need so I asked if any family who wished to mark the occasion would make a small donation to Air Ambulance NI in lieu of presents.  It is a charity close to my heart and I had hoped to raise £1 for every year of my life but was completely overwhelmed by the amount received.”

Presenting a cheque for £556.20p to Colleen Milligan from Air Ambulance NI is Ciara Quinn and the children from Rathore School, Newry who chose AANI as their charity for 2020/2021. The school took part in various fundraising activities including sensory days and non uniform days to raise vital funds for the local charity. Sincere thanks to all the staff, pupils and parents for all their support and donations.

Dungannon agricultural supplies business Agri Barn are holding their first annual tractor run on Sunday 4th July in aid of Air Ambulance NI. Organiser Adrian McCann, owner of Agri Barn, chose Air Ambulance NI as the charity for the event after he saw first-hand the helicopter emergency medical service land beside his premises in July 2019 following a motorcycle accident. “It was a very bad accident and to see the team land right beside where it happened in such a short space of time was a huge eye-opener to me. Coming from a farming background too, I am very aware of the dangers that farmers face daily either working with animals or machinery with little or no help in remote locations. I hope I will never need the Air Ambulance but it’s a great service to have.”

Mark Spence from Maghaberry was delighted to visit the Air Ambulance NI base on Saturday 12th June after he decked out his garden with Christmas lights and asked for donations to Air Ambulance NI raising a fantastic £1008.47p for the charity. Mark wants to say a huge thank you to every person who donated and visited his garden in December.

Thank you to the family of the late Mervyn Wilson from Portadown. Mr Wilson worked for the NI Ambulance Service for over 45 years and was a big supporter of Air Ambulance NI. Mr Wilson sadly passed away on 10th October 2020 and his family kindly asked for donations to the charity in lieu of flowers. 7-year-old Freyia Doherty from Kilkeel raised a phenomenal £4805.08p for Air Ambulance NI after her father needed the service in November 2020. Following the incident, Freyia and her family decided to organise a fundraising day on Friday 4th December where they asked the local community to support the charity by wearing their favourite jersey all day and donating to the charity. The primary 3 pupil from St Columban’s Primary School, Kilkeel would like to say a big thank you to all the people who donated on the day and helped her donate vital funds to the service that helped her daddy who is thankfully making a great recovery!

We were delighted to meet with John Patton from Markethill who held a fundraiser in aid of AANI for his birthday in October 2019. John decided to support the charity after both his friends pictured, Brian Toner and Denver Ross required help from the HEMS service following accidents on their farms. John donated the funds back in 2019 but was delighted to get a photo with his two close friends to thank the local community for their support.

Throughout the month of April, Foundation Degree Hospitality & Tourism students from SRC planned and participated in a variety of online charity events as part of their course – The Great SRC Student Bake Off, Bingo night, and a Party Quiz night. In these challenging times, the students demonstrated that not only can online events work, but that the ability to diversify, be flexible and adapt are all still crucial skills for anyone wishing to enter such a dynamic and ever-changing industry. The students would also like to acknowledge and thank the generosity of all those who donated, as £200 was raised for AANI. Thanks also to all those who sponsored the events by providing some great prizes!

Martin McLaughlin from the Spar Omagh Half Marathon committee presents £5,860 to Damien McAnespie, Air Ambulance NI Charity Fundraising Manager, from registration payments that were deferred from last year's race to this year's cancelled 2021 event.

The Spar Omagh Half Marathon committee have made a second donation to the Air Ambulance NI Charity following the cancellation of their 2021 event. 313 very generous people from a mix of the Half Marathon, Half Marathon Walk and the 5K donated their entry fee from the virtual 2020 event to Air Ambulance NI. This year’s donation of £5,860 and 2020’s donation of £8,081 is just shy of an incredible overall total of £14,000!

The family held a charity fireworks display on Camlough Mountain on New Years Eve in memory of their daughter, Ciara. Last week, for the very first time, ‘Lowrys Lane Band’ performed for the local residents and raised and amazing £108.04 for AANI.
