The annual Shilnavogie Sheep Dog Trial once again brought together competitors, families, and supporters on Saturday 13th September at the farm of Mr John Davison, Shilnavogie, raising an impressive £1,502.50 for Air Ambulance NI.

Despite one heavy downpour, the weather was kind, and spirits were high as 25 competitors and their loyal dogs took to the field to demonstrate their skills in this friendly, strictly amateur event. The focus was on participation and enjoyment — and while some handlers fared better than others, a great day was had by all.

The event was kindly judged by Michael McAllister with Donal McAllister serving as timekeeper. The committee extends heartfelt thanks to the ladies who provided delicious refreshments throughout the day and to all who attended and supported the event.

Special thanks go to the generous sponsors: Logan Whistles, David Hamilton Agri Buildings, W. Hamill & Sons, Oldstone Vets, Gerry Magill, Gordon Crooks, Joe Maybin, Fane Valley, Moores Animal Feeds, Cleggan Estate, and McCurdy Fuels.

This year’s total includes an additional £100 donation from the Mid-Antrim Motor Club Off-Road Section, bringing the overall funds raised to £1,502.50 — all of which has been donated to local charity Air Ambulance NI, which delivers emergency pre-hospital care directly to patients when the worst has happened.

Katrina Hughes, Area Fundraising Manager for Air Ambulance NI, expressed her gratitude, saying:

“We are so thankful to everyone involved in the Shilnavogie Sheep Dog Trial for their incredible generosity and continued support. The funds raised will help the medical team deliver emergency medical interventions to patients before they reach hospital, 365 days a year. Community events like this truly make a life-saving difference.”

Air Ambulance NI works in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), to provide the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service which delivers critical care to those seriously ill or injured, on average twice a day. The service requires £8,200 every day to remain operational—a figure made possible only through public support and fundraising efforts like these.

The committee behind the Shilnavogie Sheep Dog Trial would like to once again thank all competitors, sponsors, and supporters who made the day such a success, helping raise vital funds for this indispensable local charity.
