Air Ambulance Northern Ireland is delighted to announce that the Simon Osborne Air Ambulance NI Appeal (SOAAA) has raised a remarkable £16,284 at the 2025 Shane’s Castle Steam Rally, bringing their total support since 2019 to an extraordinary £69,079.

The two-day steam rally event sees 30+ rides and side-shows in its fairground, plus many other demonstrations and exhibits, as well as thousands of attendees every year in May.  A total of 16 volunteers undertook 76 hours raising awareness and funds.  The total amount will fund the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for two days and potentially save the lives of 4 individuals, anywhere in our community.

A spokesperson for The Shane’s Castle May Day Steam Rally commented on the event “This event has always been about community spirit, tradition, and coming together for a good cause. We are incredibly proud of what everyone—volunteers, participants, and visitors alike—has helped achieve for Air Ambulance NI. Knowing that our efforts contribute to such a vital service, one that saves lives across Northern Ireland every day, is truly rewarding.”

The latest fundraising milestone was celebrated at the Shane’s Castle Steam Rally Appreciation BBQ attended by organisers, committee members, and volunteers. During the event, a raffle raised an additional £1,400, which was added to the impressive sum collected over the two days of the Rally in May. The total proceeds were presented to representatives of The Simon Osborne Air Ambulance NI Appeal, marking another significant contribution from this dedicated group.

A spokesperson for The Simon Osborne Air Ambulance NI Appeal commented: “We are continually inspired by the generosity and support of everyone involved with the Shane’s Castle Steam Rally. To have raised over £69,000 for Air Ambulance NI since 2019 is truly unbelievable. Every donation helps save lives, brains, and limbs across Northern Ireland, and we are humbled to play a part in this vital work.”

Kerry Anderson, Head of Fundraising at Air Ambulance NI, added: “We ow huge thanks to the Shane’s Castle Steam Rally committee for their continued support of our charity.   The dedication shown by the Simon Osborne Appeal and all those involved is simply outstanding. Their ongoing support helps to ensure that our critical service can continue to be there for everyone in Northern Ireland, 365 days a year. We are extremely grateful for their generosity, which undoubtedly makes a real difference to patients and families.”

Air Ambulance NI extends heartfelt thanks to The Simon Osborne Appeal, Shane’s Castle Steam Rally organisers, and every donor and volunteer whose kindness and commitment have helped to save countless lives throughout the region.
