Air Ambulance NI has held its inaugural Dragon Boat Race, sponsored by PRM Group Ltd, to coincide with the air ambulance awareness week in September. A fantastic 8,000 meters was rowed by 300 budding Dragon Boat participants all in the name of the charity.

Not only did the 15 teams do their utmost in physical rowing on the day, but they were also competing for the coveted ‘Overall Winner’ title which was won by Gilfresh produce Ltd from County Armagh.

Anne MacOscar from Gilfresh Produce said, “Our team had a great day at Air Ambualnce NI’s Dragon Boat Race.  There were a few strong rowers on the team and that definitely helped us take the overall title.  It was a super team building day and lovely for some of our staff to have a bit of craic, exercise and help such a brilliant cause. The trophy has pride of place now at our premises in Loughgall!”

There were three other titles awarded from the event.  CDE Global were awarded the winners for Best Team Spirit as they won their heat in the lashing rain and the winners of Best Fancy Dress was Molson Coors in their fabulous onesies!  The Fundraising Champions were the Smyth family team who raised over £6,000 of the overall £26,000 raised for the charity.

Philip Morrow of PRM Group Ltd and overall sponsor for the event said, “Our business is right next to the Air Ambulance airbase, so we see the helicopter coming in and out of base regularly.  We’ve developed a really good working partnership with the charity and this event culminates a series of activities for 2021. It was great to see so many take part on the day, well done to all who took part, made the finals and the crowned winners.  We know each team is a winner for their contribution to the air ambulance service, enabling the helicopter and team to fly to critically injured people twice a day.”
